Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D) while speaking on camera to news agencies, said that she has held an AR-15 in her hands, and that:

it is as heavy as 10 boxes that you might be moving.

She also went on to say that:

the bullet that is utilized, a .50 caliber, these kinds of bullets need to be licensed and do not need to be on the street.

An AR-15 rifle can be modular and its properties can vary based on specific model and configuration, as well as accessories or attachments.

A loaded standard AR-15 weighs around 7.5 lbs, a loaded heavy barrel AR-15 can range between 8 to 9 lbs or more.

As far as ammunition goes for AR-15s, various calibers can be used such as:

• .223
• 5.56
• 6.5 Grendel
• 6.8 SPC

Standard AR-15s are generally equipped to use .223 or 5.56 ammunition.

It is true however that the AR-15 can fire .50 caliber rounds if equipped to do so, most notably the .50 caliber Beowulf round.
